Uintah Pappoose

1891 - 1892

In 1891, Kate Jean Boan purchased a printing press from Sears and Roebuck and began publishing a four-page weekly newspaper, the first in Eastern Utah. The newspaper appeared on Thursdays and continued for 39 issues. Boan sold the newspaper to James Barker, who changed the name to the The Vernal Express. The Pappoose was available by subscription for $2 per year. In it, the dentist Mrs. Nancy Haws advertised teeth extraction "without pain."
